An app developed for Obi Mobiles, a Silicon Valley smartphone manufacturer founded in 2014 by former Apple and PepsiCo CEO John Sculley. The app was developed primarily for promoting Obi mobile phones during its launch at Gitex, Dubai. Using the app Gitex visitors could participate in daily raffles to avail different offers and get paid in cash.
Obi Mobiles wanted to promote their newly launched Android devices at Gitext 2015, the most prominent technology exhibition in Dubai. They wanted the app to serve up offers for the visitors and pay them in cash through NBF and Paypal. The infrastructure had to be robust to handle more than 100, 000 request per day.
The app was developed as a hybrid app using Ionic framework. For UI and UX designs we worked closely with Ammunition Group, California based design studio. The business team was working out of Singapore and Dubai. So, the project team was spread across multiple timezones. All the teams were onboard on our project management system Redmine.
Obi had partnered with a number of exhibitors including Toyota, Western Digital, etc. to promote their products as well. We had developed configurable templates for different types of offers. Due to the configurable offers new partners could be onboarded in two days time.
The app was developed further to use various ML technologies including computer visions and OCR to read images of receipts to fetch customer names, BOM, and amounts.
