In a nutshell

Konkan Railway Corporation connects the Konkan coast of India. 67 railway stations and growing, 736 kilometres of tracks, millions of passengers a day. Our Enterprise Collaboration Suite built on our product, Servaya, connects 3000+ employees of Konkan Railway, keeping the Konkan coast connected without missing a beat.

Challenges, not problems

Konkan Railway was built in a difficult terrain where Internet connectivity and human resource availability both were a major challenge. They needed a system which reaches all their officers, enables paperless working of office productivity applications, with centralised management of services.

Solutions, not ideas

Merce offered a centralised system based on Servaya, with 11 servers spread across three data centres catering to 70+ stations. It included the following modules:

  • email: internal and external
  • file sharing through file servers
  • controlled Internet access with centralised policy enforcement
  • Intranet
  • project management system
  • document management system
  • browser-based office suite with documents and spreadsheets
  • integration with Linux-based thin client appliances

Now that’s value

The first phase was delivered in six months, while coordinating with multi parties involved like HP (who provided servers), WAN team (who managed the network) and thin-client manufacturers (who designed and built custom thin clients for KRCL). 11 servers, including backup and redundancy is all it took to deploy the solution. A small team (3 junior engineers and 1 senior tech specialist) was deployed for 6 years of our engagement with them to maintain the entire solution.
